Elina Garanca returns to Carnegie Hall with the Met Orchestra - June 14, 2019

Elīna Garanča’s voice is one-in-a-million, allying grace and power to a commanding authority,” wrote The Independent (London) of the lush-voiced Latvian mezzo-soprano. Garanča returns to Carnegie Hall for an exciting evening of stunning singing with the Met Orchestra, conducted by music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin

Mahler's and Bruckner’s deep personal emotions are masterfully expressed with gestures both large and small. Mahler’s Rückert Lieder contemplate love, life, and death with delicate scoring—solo instruments are used sparingly for effect—and subtle vocal writing. Bruckner emotes on a larger scale in a superbly crafted symphony that awes with its sweeping breadth, drama, and soaring lyricism. The work energizes with its robust Scherzo and jubilant finale, but its emotional core is the second-movement Adagio, a breathtaking memorial to his idol, Wagner.

Andris Nelsons and the BSO with Renee Fleming - Carnegie Hall - March 19, 2019

Latvian-born Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra return to Carnegie Hall with renowned soprano Renée Fleming

This all-Strauss program of vocal splendor and orchestral thrills will leave you breathless. The tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra will be familiar to most for its opening “Sunrise,” the iconic passage used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey—but that’s only one episode in a mysterious and marvelous work. From later in his career is Capriccio, his final opera, which opens with a passionate string sextet instead of a traditional overture and culminates in a rapturous monologue that ranks as one of Strauss’s finest soprano showpieces.
