Images of East - Kremerata Baltica with Gidon Kremer, violin & Nizar Ali Badr, sculptures

An arrangement of Schumann’s Pictures from the East is the centerpiece of this arresting, affecting program from Latvian-born Gidon Kremer and his Kremerata Baltica ensemble. Accompanied by an animated film by Sandro Kancheli featuring the haunting, ephemeral stone sculptures of Syrian artist Nizar Ali Badr, Images of the East is a powerful example of artists using their influence and ability to shine a light on the social issues of our day.

Skride Piano Quartet - March 10, 2019, 2 pm

The Skride Piano Quartet is made up of four outstanding musicians who have each achieved success as a soloist at the highest levels. Violinist Baiba Skride’s natural approach to her music-making has endeared her to some of today’s most important conductors and orchestras worldwide. Lise Bertahaud is unanimously praised as an outstanding violist on the international music scene. Twenty-six year-old Harriet Krijgh is one of today’s most exciting and promising young cellists. Pianist Lauma Skride‘s playing is “wonderfully sensitive, with marvelous tone quality, and always with highly virtuosic vigor,” according to a review by the Bavarian Broadcasting Service. We rarely get to hear a program of piano quartets and the Brahms G Minor with its "gypsy rondo" finale is guaranteed to bring the house down.
